Description
What is High Voltage Holiday Detector?
High voltage holiday detector as their name implies, operate using higher voltages than their low-voltage counterparts. This higher voltage allows them to detect holidays in thicker coatings (greater than 500 microns).
A holiday test is an inspection method used to detect discontinuities in painted or coated surfaces using specialized tools and equipment. These tools, called holiday detectors, are portable devices that are swept across the coated surface.
Holidays tests work on the concept of electrical conductivity. Metal substrates are excellent conductors of electricity, and therefore allow current to flow through them. On the other hand, many coatings are poor conductors of electricity and resist the flow of electricity. Using this principle, holiday tests use instruments to locate flaws in anticorrosive paints and coatings.
During holiday testing, a ground wire and probing electrode are attached to the same power source. The ground wire is clamped to the specimen being tested while the probe is swept across the surface of the metal substrate. If the probe comes into contact with a coating discontinuity, the exposed metal completes the electrical circuit between the electrode and the grounding wire, resulting in a flow of electricity. This electricity shows up on an indicator and also alerting the equipment operator of the defect.
While holiday tests are effective, they do possess limitations. Because these tests depend on the coating being non-conductive, they are not effective on conductive metallic coatings, such as zinc-rich primers.
Our High Voltage Holiday Detector products as follow :
TQC High Voltage Holiday Detector or porosity test provides accurate detection of pinholes, flaws, inclusions, thin spots and also bubbles in a coating.
The gauge has been specifically designed to revolutionize high voltage DC testing of coatings, making it safer, easier and more reliable than previously possible.
The high voltage technique is identically to test porosity coatings thickness up to 36 mm thick. This Instrument is ideal for inspecting paint on pipelines, tank bottoms and other protective coatings, also for coatings on concrete.
Furthermore the instrument has a lot of uniquely features. A current limiting not only to avoid coating damage, but also a safety hand grip without sensitive electronics. The extended ribbing on the handle would provides an effective barrier between the high voltage and the user. The accurate sensitivity adjustment allows use on metallized or slightly damp coatings.
These is used to ensure the longevity of coating systems by locating pin holes, air bubbles, and also porosity in non-conductive coatings on conductive substrates, including concrete.
TQC High Voltage Holiday Detector Complies with the requirements Standard of
AS3894.1-2002 (R2013) and also Nace Standards: SP0490-2007; SP0274-2011 & SP0188-2006

Holiday Detector PosiTest HHD Kit is Holiday detector high-voltage instrument that uses high voltage (greater than 800 volts) electricity to discover discontinuities in thicker non-conducting or insulating film (between 500 microns (20 mils) and 25mm (1″) thick) that is applied over conductive substrates. Insulators include some paints, varnishes and other coatings that are poor electrical conductors.
The voltage is use to determined by the coating’s type and thickness. A high-voltage holiday detector can be destructive because the high voltage pulses used to detect holidays can burn or destroy some of the thinly coated areas.
High Voltage Holiday Detector is also known as a spark tester because of the spark it gives off whenever a holiday or coating discontinuity is found.
High Voltage Holiday detector, is an instrument used to check for discontinuities in coatings thicker than 500 microns (20 mils). It typically consists of a power source, a ground wire, a probing electrode and also an indicator. The indicator is a light or sound that is triggered when a holiday is detected.
THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF HIGH VOLTAGE HOLIDAY DETECTORS AVAILABLE.
The pulsating direct current or the continuous direct current. The pulsating direct current holiday detector is the most commonly used type.
A pulsed direct current holiday detector discharges an adjustable and regulated ‘pulsed’ or “cycling type” of high voltage. It is suitable for use in dirty, damp, contaminated or slightly conductive coating surfaces.
A continuous direct current holiday detector discharges high voltage continuously and is suitable for holiday testing non-conductive coatings on pipelines, storage tanks and also valves.
